Tenesmus refers to cramping rectal pain. Tenesmus gives you the feeling that you need to have a bowel movement, even if you’ve already had one. When you have tenesmus, you might strain harder to produce only a small amount of stool during bowel movements.
So I looked up “tenesmus” on my preferred dictionary resource (OneLook Dictionary Search). I wish I hadn’t. I pity the people who suffer from IBS and have had to make arrangements at work with a Crohn’s Disease sufferer.
Talk about nasty! Not something to trifle with.
