Here’s the truth from a professional writer. Most people who find out you are a writer will ask for a free book like they are doing you a huge favor and expect you to present it on your knees like they are royalty who deign to accept it. Most creators are treated with such incredible arrogance and contempt.
OMG so this reminded me of Fanny Brice in the sketch “The Sweepstakes Ticket” from the movie “Ziegfeld Follies” where her husband tells her that he gave away their winning ticket (before he knew it had won) and suggests they just ask the man for the ticket and he’ll probably give it back.
Aaaaand the reason I explained all of this is that I remembered Fanny’s reply to this speculation:
“Poison he’ll give us!”
And that’s probably all that Lucy would get from Snoopy after her snide remarks today.
