I love the cartoon. It’s funny and skillfully executed.
Lemmings, though, don’t rush off cliffs (or into the ocean) en masse.
I remember seeing, as a kid, the “educational” film showing them doing that. It was faked to support the weird claim about their suicidal conformity. The animals on that precipice were being pushed by human hands just out of camera range.
The other angle showing them falling from a height into the ocean?
There is an interesting and hard to believe story about that: Disney saw rare footage of some very exotic Leng Lemmings who when they go over and die, young sprout from their bodies with a new generation. The jolt of adrenalin is suspected to start the germination cycle. It was so bizarre he had to show it. However he was told to not say that those were not regular lemmings. He must have been powerfully brave to do such a thing for he went ahead shamelessly faking some of it. So now we have that bizarre footage and very few know the truth…
And among the other famous nature hoaxes we have the films of Eastern European spaghetti harvests wherein the people venture into the wooded areas to collect the pasta when it ripens on the Spaghetti Trees. This is a genuine hoax that millions of TV viewers fell for. The harvesting videos are on YouTube… or were the last time I looked.
