Hey, blab all you want. I applaud free speech and I would never have it any other way. Anyone, who so chooses, is free to be racist - if that is their thing. And I, because I so choose, am free to protest against racism - because that is my thing. Maybe Tim did not intend for the strip to come across as racist. However, given the circumstances surrounding the recent elections, the strip, at best, is in extremely poor taste.
Iâm with Shotta. It is racist. No two ways about it. Good âexcuseâ to tie it in to Planet of the Apes and robot moviesâ nudge, nudge, wink, wink, yeah, we get it. - Dale got it. runar got it. pookid54 got it. SuperRobot234 and doctortoon tried the âwhy canât we all get alongâ approach. And two of you are just in complete denial because talk of racism makes you uncomfortable (ahem margueritem and RogOregon). Those who deny that it exists or wish it away are part of the problemâ maybe even worse than those who are openly racist. I have more respect for those who take a stand one way or the other rather than those who would deny it altogether. Tim Rickard might not even BE a racist. I canât make that judgement of him. I donât know him. But he is certainly an intelligent man. And he HAS to have known that his cartoon would be inciteful. Most racism is subtle and not overt or blatant. We donât look for it. We donât HAVE to look for it. It either is or it isnât. We know it when we see it. Problem is, I LOVED Brewster Rockitâ until I saw todayâs cartoon. I will never look at it the same way again. Very disappointing indeed.
Chickens lay eggs, the farmer collects the eggs, some people see this as food, others see it as abuse against chickens.
The chickens will continue to lay eggs all the same, no matter your point of view. It is like the play âWaiting for Godotâ. Some see it as some deep meaning and soul searching piece of literature. Whereas the writer simply meant it as two guys waiting for someone who doesnât show up.
It just shows that sometimes you shouldnât read things into something that is not there.
CeeVee: Iâve read Brewster Rocket since it first appeared on GoComics. I find it tremendously humorous. Iâve seen no signs of racism in it at all. There is one black character, who could be right out of the pages of an X-Files script. Heâs treated with respect.
Like you, I donât know Tim Rickard, and I donât know whatâs in his mind and heart. Until he comes and leaves a post here, neither one of us will know exactly what he meant. Given the political climate, a better choice probably would have been âRobots vs. Sandwormsâ or something. Yes, I know that racism exists. For the record, I was overjoyed when Obama won, and I am so proud of America for taken this major step forward.
My objection to Terminator was that they reprogrammed Arnold to make him a good guy then destroyed the new and improved programming at the end of the movie. Not smart.
My objection to Planet of The Apes was that they enslaved the humans when they were freed.
So the choices are clear but between objectionable outcomes.

Itâs funny how people look for any excuse to cry âracismâ. Itâs a great way to attempt to take away othersâ freedom of speech.
I say Shota999 is the racist for being the one to jump to that conclusion- or maybe just a total moron.

It is good to have clear-cut choices.
My objection to Terminator was that they reprogrammed Arnold to make him a good guy then destroyed the new and improved programming at the end of the movie. Not smart.
My objection to Planet of The Apes was that they enslaved the humans when they were freed.
