Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Fred!! You will NOT get Kitty to steal any of those chocolate ornaments for you nor will you knock the tree over to get them yourself! You will leave them alone since chocolate is doggy poison unless you wish to spend Christmas in hospital a very sick basset hound.
Are chocolate decorations a big thing in the UK? Peppermint canes, great; strings of popcorn, OK, though that seems to be feeding the mice; but chocolate?
Shame on you, Fred – you shouldn’t be thinking such naughty thoughts this close to Christmas! Besides, you may enjoy the taste of the chocolate, but I can promise you you won’t enjoy what happens next! One of our dogs managed to beat us to a spilled tin of chocolate chips and hoover up an untold quantity. We called the vet about 5 minutes before they closed for the day, then broke a land-speed record getting her to their office. During the next few hours she had great cause to regret her hasty act … and none of the rest of us were having much fun, either!
I’m surprised to see Mr. Graham use chocolate as an example here. I know the treat needed to be something that could normally go on a tree that a dog might want, but unlike the sausages that Fred normally steals, chocolate can be lethal to any dog. I get there is a suspension of disbelief in any comic and I’m assuming that’s what was at the root here, but it’s still a bit surprising.
That reminds me of some comic just yesterday, in which Mom says “Finally, the tree is up.” And the last frame has the cat saying (and demonstrating) “A-a-and the tree is down.”
