I just thought of a chess “variant” that might be fun. Say, at three points during a game, either player can announce and then play any of his chess pieces as if it were a checkers piece, including any possible jumps. It would certainly change game strategy as each player tries not to position his pieces so that they can be jumped.

You recognize your problem. Answer is simple AND difficult. Learn to play chess. You might do better than you think you will. You will definitely do better by making the effort…..

We used to play chess in high school. Never won a game and when I played checkers with my father I always lost because he cheated (even at cards) .
