We have a bird-bath heater plugged through a thermo-cube so it turns on when the temperature gets below about 34ºF. We don’t get a whole lot of freezing weather here, but the birds (and other critters) do enjoy it when it’s the only open water nearby.
I have a bird-bath heater. It can help make a difference between birds living, or dying from thirst. One must scrub it often to prevent microbe accumulation.

Now, slowly raise the temp to 190 and have roast quail for dinner.

Reminds me of pictures I’ve seen of the monkeys in Japan enjoying a natural hot spring with snow all around the edges.

That idea was for the birds. (Somebody had to say it.)

And when the birds leave.. the feathers freeze.. they can’t fly.. and they become lunch for feral cats.

My sister’s heated bird bath stopped working, recently I said “And without feather ado, go out and buy a new one.”

We have cats and Labradors and in the interest of helping the local bird population we don’t have a bird bath on the property.

Would probably suit Snoopy And Woodstock. (As long as the could still play hockey in the unheated zone…)
