It is fun to watch dogs dream. I watched a beagle dreaming of chasing something. He was very happy (probably caught a rabbit for the first — and only — time in his life).
I did dog sit a dog for a few months who would be dead asleep and suddenly bark very loud and sharply and wake up having terrified himself. He would give me a dirty look (I would maybe be quietly reading) and go back to sleep as if offended by “whatever” woke him up. His voice was like a very loud doorbell, which is what his breed was created to do.
In this case, I think Puddles heard a noise, woke up, barked, and then went back to sleep. Just like my little dachshund Sierra. OTOH, my rescue pittie Zoe has dreams and makes little noises. She didn’t come from a bad situation, so I think she was just greeting everybody in her dreams like she does in real life! They are both good girls!
