It’s not the year. Blaming the year is nothing but a way to bury your head in the sand and try to ignore the fact that our troubles this year are due in very large measure to very specific people committing very specific deeds of commission, omission and dereliction that put us where we are. We need to decide how best to prevent such racist, misogynist, corrupt, irresponsible, cowardly and above all stupid leadership from taking power again.
You know 2020 gets a bad rap. We all knew this was coming. I am 67 and for most of my life we were warned this was going to happen. We even had practice runs. Remember Sars and the Spanish flu? All within modern history. And what happened this time? We weren’t prepared. We had no supplies. We had did not have stockpiles of PPEs. Dispite the fact FEMA guidelines call for a 6 month stockpile we couldn’t even get through the first month. We have people who act like they have never heard of such a thing and it couldn’t possibly happen to us, not today, not in the 21st century and these folks wandered around the world ensuring it was a pandemic. We did it to ourselves and the question is did we learn something or is it something we think we are going to leave behind in 2020 never to see again?
I gave up on Yelp when I saw “bribe discount” notices on menus at local restaurants for favorable reviews. Yelp did not want to hear my complaint. There is no rating system that cannot be perverted in seconds by marketing specialists.
As 2020 exits, everyone is tagging it as “worst year. ever.” My fear is that 2021 is waiting in the wings as 2020 leaves, telling 2020, “here, hold my beer”

2020 was like a bad marriage. I’m just glad it’s over and I managed to live through it.
