Pavlov was a Russian physiologist, not the dog. His name was Bierka.

    I hear bells – I want to eat. I eat – I hear bells. I hear bells – I want to eat. I eat – I hear bells. And I can’t stop drooling. I almost wish I had a drinking problem again.

One refinement of the Pavlov experiment was to train a dog to salivate when a metronome was beating at a certain frequency. Somebody tried it with an unrestrained dog and was surprised to see that the dog went to the metronome and tried to make it move at the rate he associated with food.
