After a state legislator publicly commented that nurses just sit around playing cards all day, a poster appeared in our Medical unit with the chorus to “The Gambler” and pictures of nurses:
You gotta know when to hold’em, [nurse comforting a patient]
Know when to fold’em, [nurse making a bed]
Know when to walk away, [nurse escorting a discharged patient]
Know when to run. [nurses responding to a Code Blue]
To her credit, Washington state Sen. Maureen Walsh apologized, and also supported a marriage-equality bill (i.e. went against her party). No bonus points for guessing which party she represents.
