Linus has moved up from wanting to be “the humble old country doctor” of yesteryear.

This was two decades before Dr. James Andrews made his wealth as a knee, elbow and shoulder surgeon for just about any professional athlete, especially baseball players.

Well you got to admire the skill of the knee surgeons in the game of European football, also known as soccer. A player receiving a knee injury writhes around on the ground in pain, and needs to be carried off the field on a stretcher. Two to three minutes later he is substituted back into the game, no sign of the worst for wear.

My daughter has toyed with the idea of being a NASCAR statistician. Heck; she’s doing it now, for fun.

Since this strip is from 1974, I wonder if this is a reference to NY Jets quarterback Joe Namath, who was plagued with knee injuries.

There is definite money in sports medicine and it usually gets busier after the holidays when you need your money most….
