Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
This is fodder for next weekâs Zitpickerâs Notebook: Hey Kids! Donât drive without your safety restraint; and for sure, donât drive with gas in your eyes.
Howâd she know it was Tracy? Despite the fact that sheâs blind, she could see lights behind herâŠbut they werenât police lights, because Tracyâs driving Nollâs car.
And she didnât see Tracy at Nollâs houseâŠhe just, uh, âblindâ-sided her.
Guess she just figures that since his nameâs on the strip, it must be him.
Donât want to spread or even hint at, what may be false or misunderstood rumor. But does anyone know why Brian Bassett seems to have left the Adam@Home comic strip?
There is talk on their board of new contributors there, Devon Crane and Rob Harrell (?)
I seem to recall Jeff saying (before he and his alter ego departed), that he suspected that quiet ânegotiationsâ for âsuccessionâ at Dick Tracy MAY be going on. And you know he is as close as âMat to Shoeâ to you know who !
It really seems more than a bit way out, but there is something else that sounded like a âhintâ.
Again it could all be a big MISUNDERSTANDING (say, a wrong interpretation) but some that post here seem to also post on the Adam@Home board and may have clearer information on the question of the Brian Basset departure(?) Docter Toon for example.
Alan Gardner mentioned the Bassett thing a couple of days ago on the Daily Cartoonist:
http://dailycartoonist.com/index.php/2009/02/23/rob-harrell-to-work-on-adamhome/
Doesnât sound like any of it relates to Dick Tracy.
Oh, boy! Iâm sorry, Liam, but even you have to appreciate the comedy of this moment. I mean, itâs like thereâs a script somewhere, right?! Have fun with the rest of the afternoon!
Boys & girls, this is probably my last post, at least for a while. Liam requested that I remove the post I submitted today, due to it being, in his words heavy-handed, disrespectful and unfair in its characterization of him. I removed it because he asked me to. I would never go out of my way to hurt anyone. Having said that, I find the double standard impossible for me to accept. I will continue to read both the strip & everyoneâs post. However, until Liam requests that I continue to post I will refrain from doing so.
I am not going to request that you continue to post, bassmanbob. Whether or not you choose to post is entirely up to you. What I am requesting is that the people who post here leave other fans out of their posts. This is a place where all fans and magpies are welcome to post their opinions - positive or negative - about the Dick Tracy comic strip. A quick glance through the archives will tell you that we allow a wide range of opinions about the strip and the cartoonist. But including anyone besides the strip and/or the cartoonist when you are posting is going to make your comment subject to scrutiny.
Say it ainât so BB. If it wasnât for the comments section of this tripe there really isnât any reason to âtune-inâ. Your (and others)posts add some spice to an otherwise waste of space.
Looks like everything has been cleared up. Hereâs the slightly edited story (as if anyone cared ).
The unholy trio of Locher, âI AM GOLLUMâ & THE NAMELESS ONE felt it was time to go for the kill!
âLetâs write a strip today that will cause all of them to want to throw themselves off the cliffâ!
âBBBAAAHHHAAAHHAAAAâ all three of them screamed.
They decided on a ridiculous first panel that had Tracy with a confused look on his face muttering an asinine, âThe weather is closing inâ.
Upon looking at what Locher had drawn for the second panel, âI AM GOLLUMâ & THE NAMELESS ONE both fell at his feet, trembling at his greatness.
Angelorious cried bitter tears when she realized what her next lines were to be. She knew that all was lost! Weeping uncontrollably over how insane her dialogue was, she spat out her lines.
âThere are lights behind me. Must be Tracy â Gotta sped upâ!
Locher became insane with power!
âNow all the Tracy followers will rue the day they ever questioned meâ he hissed as he drew the last panel.
âThis will destroy any remaining faith they have in the strip!!
The hearts of all Tracy fans were summed up in the two words found in the third panel of the train wreak of the once proud franchise.
âLOOK OUTâ!
Ladies and Gentlemen: Iâve had a great time here and I canât count the times I have left. But Bassmanbobâs experience puts a lump in my throat and a sour taste in my mouth. I kept coming back because I believed things would improve. If it wasnât for one of the biggest clowns in the country posting his twenty posts a day, and his âgood buddyâ taking up for him, the interest wouldnât have lasted. Coming down on BB tilts the field. And the common thread that we all share is the sophmoric garbage that DL is selling TMS. No wonder people laugh at the strip. We were laughing, too. BB is a natural with getting people to laugh at themselves. Compared to DL, BB has talent galore. Seeing what transpired today, I am glad I didnât Pay to Play in Naperville, Illinois. Iâd want my money back. Iâm too old and ornery to attend Kindergarten again. Good luck, all!
Morrow - I am most sorry to see you go. All of you make this such an entertaining part of my daily ritual. I hope others are not discouraged enough to quit. BMB is one of my favorites! So is Grok!
Each of your comments brighten the day.
Unfortunately, DT is nowhere near the quality it used to be, both in art and in story. Hopefully, DL will retire or somehow pass the strip on to someone younger with better story ideas.(and better art!)
Norman, I donât know how you can say âThat is simply not the case.â Iâm assuming youâre referring to my statement that positive and negative comments are welcome. So do me a favor, and go back through the archive. Read the comments. One might actually wonder if positive comments are allowed in the Dick Tracy comments section. Pay particularly close attention to your own negative comments among those you read. You have dozens of them that have not been removed and will not be removed. Morrow, same thing. Complaining about the handful of comments that received complaints and had to be removed rings completely insincere when anyone can look back and find dozens of examples of both of you freely and colorfully expressing your disdain for the cartoonist and his work. This has been and will remain a place to freely express positive and negative opinions about the strip. But there has to be a balance between expressive freedom and respect for others. If you arenât capable of that, then I think declining to join the conversation is an excellent decision.

charlie37133, the strip-thread seems already all-over-the-place.
Did Locher lose the cartoons he was supposed to submit and then submit all the ones found on the cutting-room floor?

Sheâs not going to T-bone anybody. Theyâre going to T-bone HER. You just donât go âround yelling âLOOK OUT!â with gas in your eyes.

The best thing about todayâs strip is the inspiration it gave BassmanBob to write his lampoon of it. Even the CENSORED version is funny.
Iâm not gonna start talking about the worst things about todayâs stripâŠ.
