This time, a little over 10 years ago, Richard posted a blog entry regarding this strip and the 2 prior strips:

Speaking of snow: I saw how CNN and a couple of the other national news outlets said Phoenix got a rare snow but a friend of mine out there said the NWS and TV weather guys out in “the Valley of the Sun” are going way out of their way to say this was not snow, apparently there is something called graupel which is technically not considered snow or winter precipitation but is a cousin of hail.

Ahh, winter in eastern Montana. When I was a kid (a very long time ago) we had a big snow storm with lots of our usual wind that blew the snow into huge drifts, then some dry weather followed by a dust storm which covered the drifts with mud.

The Cul de Sac kids are really eager for snow, aren’t they? And yet the D.C. metropolitan area usually gets enough. It must be just this year that has the kids so hyped to try to possess the first fallen flake….
