My gas fireplace never does that, and no cleaning up after. Also, when you’re done, just turn it off. No waiting around or worrying about smoldering embers. And no, I don’t sell them, just appreciate them.

I love the crackle of a good fire, with a screen, of course.

One of the first rules of survival is to recognize a potentially dangerous situation and avoid it. I suppose Calvin is profiling his tiger. Is that bad?

We always had screens in front of the fireplace to prevent embers from popping out of it—especially useful when Dad would burn coal in the fireplace ! ! !

Who in God’s name told Calvin about the fourth wall?

Yup. I remember the last year we had a real Christmas tree, we also had a new Franklin stove. Dad decided to chop the tree up after it had dried out and burn it. Pine resin can sure fly!
