My gas fireplace never does that, and no cleaning up after. Also, when you’re done, just turn it off. No waiting around or worrying about smoldering embers. And no, I don’t sell them, just appreciate them.
One of the first rules of survival is to recognize a potentially dangerous situation and avoid it. I suppose Calvin is profiling his tiger. Is that bad?
We always had screens in front of the fireplace to prevent embers from popping out of it—especially useful when Dad would burn coal in the fireplace ! ! !
Yup. I remember the last year we had a real Christmas tree, we also had a new Franklin stove. Dad decided to chop the tree up after it had dried out and burn it. Pine resin can sure fly!
Love it when Hobbes gets startled! I picture him making the cartoon cat sounds starting at 0:22 in the second and third panels… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrrkBoyDe_Y

That popping and crackling of the fresh wood you just put on the fire…Insects in the bark and outer layers of wood exploding.

There’s an old expression: “Let sleeping tigers lie”. Wisdom gained through experience.

If snap, crackle, and pop drives the cat that wild, maybe it would be a good idea to not buy a certain name brand cereal next time.

Since Shere Khan all tigers – be it indian, siberian or plushy ones – have to go thru the trauma of the Red Flower
