Our dog Sugar was a smart dog. She knew that the booties kept her feet from freezing and protected them from the salt and that her winter coat kept her warm. (She had been a hair dog, not fur.) She also knew that a vet would help her with any ailment she had. People could not believe that she was straining on the leash towards the door to the vet’s. She had practically dragged me there. Most dogs whine and cry and try to avoid going to the vet’s. But Sugar was always happy to go there when she was not feeling well.
Dogs don’t settle into butterflies very well. Red dog boots…. beware of Clifford book mobiles. Wasn’t red footwear some kind of Harvard sign for the men who were too weak to avoid a fraternity vow? Big Red dog walking boots…. sounds like a WKU hike necessity.
Memory from 2001: The Colorado State University vet school provided dog health checkups and washes to raise funds to get protective booties for search and rescue dogs at the 9/11 attack sites.
