I’m surprised there aren’t a lot of youngsters posting on here something like “What IS that?” I understand government schools no longer teach cursive writing any more.
When I taught third grade, back in the 70s, I dedicated 20 minutes a day to teaching cursive. By Christmas, my kids were really great little cursive writers, and we practiced by writing on specific topics all year. The other third grade teacher in the building taught cursive by hanging up the cursive alphabet above the blackboard, telling the kids to use it from now on, and giving extra credit for nicely written papers. By the end of 6th grade, you couldn’t tell which kids had come from her room and which from mine.
Love Palmer Penmanship. In grammar school we were graded on it. Had Franciscan nuns. All the same writing. In High School , most of the Mercy nun wrote totally differently. I still love to write longhand. Taught calligraphy for a while.
I don’t know about her penmanship but the person who did the lettering for Schulz could’ve used a refresher course. I honestly thought she said in panel two: Look at that. A perfect 6!

These days, what is “penmanship”? (Shouldn’t Sally be saying, by the way, "penwomanship?)

Good job Sally. Your penmanship is neater then mine ever could hope to be (and it’s for this reason that I use a computer for communication ;D).

She should have done a nice “C” for Charlie. Then maybe he would have kept it.

Too bad kids today can’t even write their name in cursive! Can’t even read cursive, either! Dumbing down America!

Never liked the look of a cursive capital g. Have always signed my name with a large lower case g.

I learned cursive in first grade. I’ve always seen faces on letters and numbers, and that is surely a happy “G”!
