They can be pricy, but fans can order personalized jerseys for most teams. Put your own name on the back, live the dream, and not worry about a player leaving or somehow disgracing himself.
All my sweaters have do not have a name or number, just the team logo. Players come and go but the team is constant. I may put a different retired number on each of the sweaters but no name. Make them guess.
I can remember an interview with Pete Rozelle where he said that NFL teams didn’t have player names on the back of jerseys because their stadiums were so much larger than the AFL that no one could read them… Obviously, I’m old.
Fanactics.com now offers free 90 day jersey protection. If your player changes team you can get a new jersey. They should extend that to one full league year. I am a CFL fan. Don’t talk to me about players changing teams during the off season. My jerseys are all numbered 00 and have my name except my CFL jersey, I have 13 for my number. The 13th man. And my MLB jersey. That’s 42 and they are home and away versions of his jersey and player names were not on the jerseys then. With the advent of free agency we end up rooting for laundry instead of players. Cody Fajardo, Doug Flutie, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Wayne Gretzky and others have all played for 2 or more teams in their careers. And jerseys are not cheap at $250 and more per each. Sometimes a hat or a hoodie is all you need.

I remember when Marty Schottenheimer talked about his days playing in the old AFL and seeing a picture of him in his uniform with his name on it!

I guess I’m different or just a curmudgeon.
I’ve never owned a shirt, sweater, or hat that has the name of an athlete or a team.

Steve Wojciechowski, Duke point guard in the late 1990s. Sportscasters sensibly called him Wojo, but his entire surname was on his jersey.

Or just quit supporting whiny and ungrateful millionaires and billionaires who don’t really give a flip about you or your feelings.

I just have generic University of Michigan stuff. I don’t think the University is going to be traded to Ohio.
