WaitâŚdo you suppose Hubbs is looking for his father? That would be a twist I wouldnât have expected, to believe one father left his family only for the arc to end with a different father coming back to his family instead.
Heâs not at his motherâs place? He took nothing with him but the football⌠Sudden crazy thought, and Iâm probably wrong (or at least, I hope I am), but⌠heâs not about to try offing himself, is he?
Ellie doesnât seem to be taking her mother-in-lawâs comments well. I do hope Hubbs recognizes what he wants soon and return to his wife and baby soon.
Ellie told Hubbs that dream time was over. The You Light Up My Life football lamp was nice, but it was time to put away childish things. Yet we saw young Hubbs make the hand-off. He told Hubbs to run. Not away from a wife turned (temporarily) selfish, but toward his goal. Paying close attention to this fine strip pays off. Recall that day when the sports announcer calling the televised football game said, âThe Diners will be drafting for their final season.â
Prepare well for the draft, Hubbs. Bet on yourself to win (kind of like a certain cartoonist did). Make the team. Show Ellie and Al what youâre made of. Make âem proud.
Hubbs has too much integrity to permanently abandon his wife and kid. But the time has come to man up and not be controlled. He will be back, better than ever!
Iâm still reserving judgement. I want to see what Hubbs ACTUALLY wrote on that note. Ellie isnât the brightest bulb in the âverse, so itâs entirely possible my theory is correct that heâs not intending to stay away. Again, misinterpretation is the standard for this couple.
For now, Iâm glad that weâre seeing Ellieâs side of it. For months itâs been seeing Ellie as a [bad words] and how Hubbs is feeling. Once Ellie stops sobbing, I hope sheâll open up about her fears and WHY sheâs been such a [bad words]. Itâs entirely possible that she felt as rational about her behavior as Hubbs feels about being trapped.
Oh, Heavenly Father⌠I am happy to see Al standing for the first time, and I am hopeful that Hubbs will return after a successful football tryout. But right now, I am praying most of all that absolutely none of Alâs first words be based on this little chat with his grandma.

Why would Ellie be asking if Hubbsâ mom saw her son if he were dead, is Mrs. Durum a medium?

Go play, get that NFL contract. Then come back and get your wife and kid. Sit down and talk to her, all will be good.

Like father, like son? Maybe it is more like mother-in-law and wife. You both pushed your men out of your life and then complain.

She really does love him.
But she should not try to change him.
