Is this turning into a backdoor pilot for a new comic strip?

Clovia has been scrimping and saving, and it’s time for her to get her own car, 51 years ago today in the Alley:

I checked back over 1969, and while there was a short look at Clovia’s graduation from Junior College, I didn’t find any mention of her going to work for Grandpa Walt.

(Maybe she took a part-time job sometime while still in school?)

sad when we have to go back 20+ years to get a real story not just wander from person to person no plot no story and no walt or skeezix yet they still live on forgotten by their own strip doomed to be even less than 4th string players more like back ups to the back ups on the 5th string players… Just kill walt and skeezix off so they can have some dignity

Why do I get the idea that Mister Jinx isn’t the worst thing Daphne has brought back to the Flash newsroom after a night out on the town??

It took me a day to figure out where this “Funny Little Man” with an enormous capp came from, until I thought about why Dale Messick would toss in this oddity instead of having Brenda stumble into a new mystery story… until I saw the profile of the li’l man in the final panel of today’s installment.

I’m all but sure “Mister Jinx” is a parody/wink to “Joe Btfsplk” from Al Capp’s “Li’l Abner” strip. “The World’s Worst Jinx”.

    For context, here’s Btfsplk’s debut, July 7. 1940 – https://i.imgur.com/QMWWYJx.jpg

Only this character’s face (what we can see of it) appears to be modeled on Messick’s fellow cartoonist – https://www.historyforsale.com/productimages/jpeg/257950.jpg

And how do you pronounce Btfsplk?

According to Capp, Btfsplk is a rude sound. During public lectures, Capp demonstrated this sound by closing his lips, leaving his tongue sticking out, and then blowing out air, which is colloquially called a “raspberry” or Bronx cheer.

Seems like everyone in Conniption thinks that missile had their name on it. Today, it’s Bob Wyer complaining that someone’s out to get him.

(I always figured Matt was Marshal Rick’s favorite Marshal.)

“Gunsmoke”, August 13, 1960 – Despite a close call with death on the open prairie after a fall from his horse, a merciless man seeks blood money when he learns that his rescuer is a wanted criminal.

Little did Cynthia, the blind-blonde lady know, but she just invited “The Gasoline Alley Strangler” into her house.

She would be identified only by reconstructing what was left of her lower jaw for dental records.

While this certainly was not The Strangler’s first victim, this particular killing was the first known time where he left his trademark calling card— her entrails were pulled out and were arranged to form words in crude cursive script:

    “What’s happening?”

Forensic analysis of the viscera led investigators to believe that the victim was alive for at least fifteen minutes after her internals were externally arranged.

After The Strangler died by suicide, his lengthy journals indicated that he was about to turn himself in to the authorities just prior to meeting Cynthia. Her naïve dinner invitation offered him a setting that he could not refuse, resulting in the future deaths and evisceration of dozens of known victims.

Who knows how many innocent victims, families, and communities would be saved from The Strangler’s insane slaughter if Cynthia had not invited him into her home that one fateful afternoon.
