The first word Snoopy typed brings back a feeling of nostalgia. Was the year 1974 still prior to the women’s movement, so that you automatically assumed in your correspondence that the editor of a magazine would be a man.
Since they print the name of the Editor(s), even then the letter should have been addressed to the correct editor by name. Beyond that, we don’t have good generic titles that don’t stilted.

They never really read their fan letters. I wrote a letter to Nickelodeon Magazine once and all I got was a random reply postcard.
