He’s protecting his family and taking some treats as his reward; since no one is around to give him one.

How is it during the day my Rugby makes all kinds of noise walking around the house? Nails on the floor and the jingle jingle of his dog tags, can’t miss it. But, @ night he is a stealth marauder combing through the house seeking out evil things and FOOD!

I know our kitchen and dining room table are safe at night thanks to constant checking by our boy.

Peruse the house to keep us safe? Not Newton. If he hears a noise in the middle of the night, it is I who has to check it out. He stands in the hallway until I come back and tells him everything is OK. Sigh.

I lived in a house with a dog door and my Schnauzer would go out at approx. 2 a.m. every night (morning), do one lap around the yard, bark once or twice at something, come back in, and get back in bed. Silly pup!

Terminology, Red. Get it right. (As I have no pup of my own, I have no canine anecdotes to share…)

All dogs spend much of their day sleeping. Rover is dog tired.

My first Border Collie, Skye. I can’t count the number of times I’d wake in the wee hours to see him, head up, silently keeping watch over us. Long time gone, long time missed!!
