In case anyone is interested it actually means âred headed.â I worked with a dog for some time named Rusty (it is common for a name, I know), he was a great boy, a Rhodesian Ridge-back mixture just like one of my dogs.
If the second dog was French, it might be spelled Phaideaux.
Trivia: The three headed guard to the underworld is Cerberus. âCerberusâ may come from âKerberosâ, meaning âspottedâ. So⊠the lord of the underworld named his dog âSpotâ.

I named my last dog Buddy. That way strangers had about a 50% chance of getting it right: âHey there, Buddy!â My second choice was âpal.â
