When my younger brother was about Wallace’s age, any random comment […or bit of TV dialog …or advertising signage …or whatever] could cue up an imagined conversation in which he’d do all the “voices” involved.
Once, that was spurred by a sign inside a dockside sporting goods shop. Bait from such vendors (particularly minnows and shrimp) was offered as “live” (which was more expensive) and “dead” (the cheaper option).
The Cue: A posted price list offering LIVE and DEAD BAIT.
My brother started his Recitation:
I need fifty cents worth of dead bait, please.
Sorry, kid, I’m sold out of dead.
But you still have live?
Yep.
Well, then… kill some.
That’s as far as he got. We had to step outside so I could recover from a sudden fit of laughter.
Concluding Unscientific Postscript: Were he present, Sterling would be happy to find a hat in panel one. There are hats in all three panels today.
Of course Merlin would deny something like that if he had opened a little bait shop … and beware Wallace it is dangerous messing in the affairs of wizards …

I anticipate another call to the McClellan house. “Wallace, Mr. Perkins called today and said you claimed he was Merlin the magician”.

I mean, I would think that someone of Merlin’s reputation would have better things to do than run a bait shop…
