I think that third fact might be using “common” a bit too lightly

do militaries still use silly string for its intended purpose?

I don’t think it is wise to use silly string on a trip wire to a live M18 Claymore.

It’s brilliant, really. Silly String isn’t massive enough to bend the tripwire, but visible enough to be seen on it.

Man-made constructs such as drains as well. Not that armed forces give a damn about the world, they only want to protect what are considered “assets.”
