Hmm…. several points of interest for me in today’s comic:
1. I always thought Sluggo slept in his hat! :)
2. I like the idea of using the alarm to alert the dogs to start barking to wake up Sluggo. Almost an auditory Rube Goldberg device!
3. I admit to using my phone as my morning alarm as well (somewhat to my chagrin, as I had vowed to resist becoming so involved with my damn cell phone, that my wife had to convince me to get). My “sound” is the classic alarm that reminds me of the WWII sirens.
4. I use the phone as my alarm because it is not going to be dependent upon electricity (if we have a power outage). I still have a traditional electric alarm clock for backup, and a windup alarm clock for a third backup…. the backups are set 1/2 hour later than when I really want to be up for reasons stated below).
5. I place my phone as far away as I can from the bed so I am forced to get up and walk to the damn phone to shut it off, hopefully then I will stay awake….. and turn off the two backups before they too may go off.
6. I only hear my alarm perhaps, maybe, 1/3 the time. I am a deep, deep sleeper. Usually it ends up being my wife who gets annoyed at the alarm (and me) who nudges at me after a couple of minutes to get out of bed to turn the damn thing off. So…. in a technical sense, I have my own sort of Rube Goldberg device too, but my wife’s muscle mechanics to roust me out of bed are of a more traditional variety.

That’s a very retro alarm tone for Sluggo there.
My alarm requires me to solve mathematical equations before it’ll switch off. I’ve become remarkably proficient at algebra in my sleep.

I like Sluggo’s bedspread—probably since I’m a big fan of a certain college football team …
GO, GATORS!
