got any other bright ideas, Poncho, to get rid of the smell? maybe bathe yourself in an ever fouler smell to mask the “squirrel’s” stink?

Okay, here is the skinny on getting skunk smell out of a dog from someone who has done it several times (farm girl, farm dogs).

Rule #1 – DO NOT GET THE DOG WET.

If you wet the dog before putting your choice of skunk remover on, it will not work.

On one of our girls, we made the mistake of showering her first and every time it rained, she stunk. The stench will never come out no matter how many showers or baths they have, or which stink removal recipe you use. Put your stink remover (the peroxide one works pretty well, look it up, but the market ones in the pet store arent bad) directly on your DRY pet.
