In 2020, “The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (38.5 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (29.9 percent).” https://taxfoundation.org/summary-of-the-latest-federal-income-tax-data-2020-update/#:~:text=The%20top%201%20percent%20paid,50%20percent%20(4.0%20percent).

This whole concept makes no sense. We pay taxes every day of the year – because the government provides us with necessities every day of the year.

There are many things only government can do well and equitably (though, alas, many of them are currently in the hands of private industry, who strive for profit, not the common good). These things require revenue. Government has but one way to acquire said revenue – from the people. You like drivable roads? Clean, reliable water in your home? A fire department to come if your home catches fire? Then shut up about paying taxes.
