Todayâs strip reminded me of a Ray Bradbury story called âThe Sound of Summer Runningâ which appears in the book Dandelion Wine. That book is similar to Red and Rover in that the stories are largely inspired by the writerâs real-life childhood. The stories in Dandelion Wine all take place in one town in the same summer in the late 1920s.
Thereâs enough money spent on over-hyped athletic shoes in the average year to feed a shoe-company marketing executiveâs family for thousands of years. :) :(
I remember PF Flyers and having to do chores and other jobs to earn the money to pay the difference between them and the shoes my mother was willing to buy. And then I heard about Converse Chucks.

I always wore my new shoes home as a kid!
Never do now, though â I always want to wear them inside a while to be sure they fit well.
