Hence, the expression ‘Gumming up the works’….

Double Bubble karma!

Today’s strip reminded me of a Ray Bradbury story called “The Sound of Summer Running” which appears in the book Dandelion Wine. That book is similar to Red and Rover in that the stories are largely inspired by the writer’s real-life childhood. The stories in Dandelion Wine all take place in one town in the same summer in the late 1920s.

I always wore my new shoes home as a kid!

Never do now, though – I always want to wear them inside a while to be sure they fit well.

There’s enough money spent on over-hyped athletic shoes in the average year to feed a shoe-company marketing executive’s family for thousands of years. :) :(

Probably Red Ball jets, maybe PF flyers.

I remember PF Flyers and having to do chores and other jobs to earn the money to pay the difference between them and the shoes my mother was willing to buy. And then I heard about Converse Chucks.

Couldn’t wait to get my new P.F. Flyers- run higher, jump faster was their slogan! I put them on and raced down the sidewalk!

Rover is very fast even without gum assistance.
