I hate that new rule of starting extra innings with a runner on second base. It’s just not how the game should be played.

Remember when gimmicks used to be just The San Diego Chicken and other fun promos?

The extra-inning runner, the DH, inter-league play, the union of the leagues, revisions to the organization of umpires — all crimes against humanity, if not nature.

A gimmick is no substitute for real talent.

Strike one was designated hitter. Strike two was inter-league play. After a couple of fouls last year – 7-inning doubleheaders and starting with a runner at second base in 10th inning – they struck out by going political in opposition to the intelligent Georgia voting reforms. My baseball interest, born in 1963, died in 2021.

In Japan they just play nine innings and allow for ties except in playoff games.

The main problem with any of these rules is, it isn’t about the game it’s about the money, pure and simple. But then even the players association is not about anything but the money either. So maybe the owners and the players deserve each other.
