Well, you need to swear the kids to a solemn pledge not to spill the fact that her house was a cesspool in her absence and that April crawled among the debris.
John does not look good in this one. He throws out orders to everyone but him. He has to be told by his son when his wife is coming home. And judging from the last panel, someone else is taking care of April.
If you clean too early, you have to clean twice! I have been known to do this before my husband gets home. There are 4 of us capable, no babies. I keep things sanitary in the kitchen and then we all tidy before he gets back.

The trick when you clean up is that making things so tidy that mama doesn’t know you’ve spent the entire weekend as slobs.;-D

The lettering here is pretty tight. Did the dad say,“There are three capable people here, or three culpable people here?”

Hey, we men aren’t slobs. We just aren’t as classy and civilized as our women folk. …can I have my testicles back now, please?

So instead of just cleaning up a little dad sets bad example and ignores the mess.

I can just see Elly coming in, seeing the mess and then thinking ‘Ah, I’m home!’ and a big smile!!!

At least Michael knows when mom is coming home. Liz should have asked him instead of dad.

Excuse me? Since when it’s strictly the mom’s job to keep the house clean?
