In CA programmers became hourly employees a few years before I retired. I remember my boss making an apologetic announcement. I barely stopped myself from cheering. I was thinking, “Overtime!”

When I worked in a grocery store, I had a supervisor say that we were lucky were hourly because he was salaried and they owned him!
