I’m reminded of that old response to how if you’d made different choices, you would be someone else – “yeah, that’s the point. Why would I want to be like this?”
… we also need to remember that not only this very moment is the result of all our own ‘decisions’, but also all the decisions of those who interacted with us.
I have been saying a variation of this for some time now. But ever since my wife died 12 weeks ago I have used it to explain why some people just can’t support someone like me who is very deep in grief. I know everyone handles “everything” differently based on “how” they got to this point in their life. In my life it is a point in a pointless life right now.
Every day that I read the Big Picture I am reminded of that old proverb, “Eat a live toad the first thing everyday and the rest of the day will be so much better.”
Could certainly be worse! And could be much better! But, sitting in my recliner, watching the news on TV, drinking my big cup of coffee and reading and laughing at The Big Picture is right where I’m happy to be. Thanks for reminding me how right I have lived my life and how lucky I am.

Is there an alternate reality where I made all of the same choices, my life is exactly the same, but the comic is funnier?
Sorry Lennie, thats the first thing that popped into my head
Maybe in that other reality, I’m funnier too

You’re welcome! And yeah, life is pretty damn good when your mornings include The Big Picture! (and not having to go to work).

And all I had to do was wait 21 or so years after you first published it.
