I had a phone number once that played “Camptown Races” (881-5621…doo dah, doo dah). I also remember a time when my favorite radio station asked people to play songs using touch tone: I’ll never forget hearing someone play a credible “Smoke On the Water”.
I think that the way this worked was that each button generated a unique pair of tones (a chord?). When you pressed two buttons simultaneously, you got only the single note that was common to both buttons. I recall playing “Taps” that way. However, you only had a total of 7 different individual notes available (3 columns + 4 rows).

When online banking came out, you could pay your bills by pressing buttons on the phone. Now I’m sick of phones. And buttons

What are you playing? Freebird? Stairway to Heaven? Any Led Zeppelin classic in particular?

Led Zeppelin? “Bee Bee Boop Beep Bee Bee Boop” sound more nearly like the theme from The Twilight Zone".
