Sarge shows some strict leadersheep

Some years ago we were hiking in the high country of Colorado and came upon a herd of sheep. Suddenly two great pyrenees ran up, at least 150 pounds each, growling and ready to rend us asunder. Fortunately, the shepherd rode up and reined them in.

My son’s dog is a border collie mix and when visiting the dog tries to herd our cat. He’s actually surprisingly effective at it, although the cat can escape through the cat door if he wants.

When I was a boy, our neighbor was a NYC police sergeant. He had a boxer dog named “Sarge” who totally ruled the neighborhood. He was really a great dog; friendly and gentle with children. But he was The Dog on our street and made sure all the other dogs knew it.

He certainly knows the drill.

He’s having a short-arm inspection.

But I really like this one also, Mr. whitehead. Though it does bring back memories of basic training!
