Had the young grandkids over for the weekend. At lunch having hotdogs, chips, and soda. One of the boys was slurping his drink trying to get the very last drop. Of course grandma points out that it would be nice if he didn’t do that as it’s not good table manners, especially if he forgets where he’s at and slurps at a restaurant. Not being one to miss a golden opportune moment I went ahead and slurped my drink. Instantly had all three g-kids laughing, score one for the fun grandpa. Luckily we were using paper plates because grandma took her fork and STABBED it into her plate causing the g-kids to see the look on her face, then they looked back at me with a forlorn look on their faces because they just knew I was in deep doo-doo which in turn made me start laughing. Got granny calmed down and let her continue with her teachable moment. Life is good!
A better punch line would have been if the woman on the left says, “Why do kids do that?” and the other one answers, “It’s a mating call.” Crafting the dialogue is important. I should have noticed this before I finished the strip. It would have been better as a Sunday page!
My parents (depression era) always insisted that I finish all my food. Then would get irritated when that involved a straw and the last few drops of a milkshake.
I was taught that it was rude to do that in public and I cringe anytime I see and hear it to this day, now at home I will do it because I live by myself but never in public.

Does slurping a drink attract the boys? I have to admit that was never a technique I used to attract the opposite sex.

“And how did you meet your husband?”
“I made a slurping noise at the mall, and he matched my slurp. It was like a mating call for teenagers.”
“This explains so much about today’s generation.”

The mating call for me was the engine roar of his ’67 GTO.

Maybe for teenageers, but for me that slurping means something entirely different. It means - I’m finished with that margarita, and ready for another.

What I’m not sure of here is it the girls that started it, or the boys.
In fact if you go by the “louder” one it flipped around for the last couple.

My mother always taught me that it was impolite to slurp like that. So, I never did it around my mother. Life is good.

Nothing wrong in doing this once in a while for the elders as well. Relaxing with a noisy slurp is advisable after a bout of tensed moment.
