Him speaking the native language reminds me of a new resident in the south of France, thought he was communicating with the ‘natives’ using his North Carolina schoolboy French. After two years, his neighbors politely informed him that for two years now, they hadn’t understood a word he was saying… but that he was doing better now. Wait, that was me, twenty years ago. Still struggling with numbers, like ninety-eight still comes in my head as four times twenty ten eight.

A true “American experience”. We seem to believe that paying a lot of money, expending a lot of fuel and buying one item of local apparel gives a hint of a glimmer of a scent of a foreign experience.

The foreign country I’d like to visit is England. I’ve already mastered “I’d like the bangers and mash.” Did you add enough petrol? “Where’s the loo?”
