I was in a store yesterday. My state allows people who have had vaccines to go maskless, although I generally wear one anyway. There was just one person working in the store, and no other customers. She had a mask off, so by CDC guidelines and those of my state, I asked if I could remove mine and she said sure. Eventually after a long chat I realized she was heading into anti-vaxxer territory. I took a couple of steps back, and asked, “So you aren’t vaccinated?” She hesitantly admitted she was not. I politely left rather quickly. I want to contact the owner and advise her of this situation, and to let her know I won’t be returning in the near future for any reason, but I am not sure how to handle this. I am fully vaccinated. It was a boutique dog store, where they carry healthy dog foods and treats. I am also sometimes responsible for a 2 year old who cannot get vaccinated. I am just shocked that woman was willing to not only let me believe she was vaccinated, but has put me in a risky situation. She had used a medical excuse, one that does not leave her immunocompromised or unable to get vaccinated. She can get the vaccine, has chosen not to and chooses not to mask or keep distance.

Yeah – the underside of the desks probably all got scraped clean by the janitors over the summer. Time to start over…
