Amoebas can be killed but or otherwise immortal. Every amoeba alive today is many millions of years old. They multiply by splitting into two. But each of the resulting amoeba is as old as the original one. They are a copy of the original one, made from the same material as the original one. Neither one is new. And that process has continued going back through time.
