How is this hell? It's exactly like my office job from before I died. Oh? I take it you haven't seen... Your new shift?! Todd: 9:00 - 5:00 plus twenty minutes! Noooooooo!
There is a classic cartoon from The New Yorker that shows a man being ushered into a room by a demon. The caption reads, "So this is Hell? Why, it looks just like my old office!’
One concept of hell is that everyone’s is specifically suited to them. There’s a Farside comic I love of Charlie Parker’s private hell and it’s never ending Lawrence Welk music on headphones.
I believe john astin played a role in the TV show night gallery where he was a hippy sharing a room with a farmer. The ending stated that there was room just like it in heaven.
In Terry Pratchett’s description of Hell, the detail that stood out for me was the ‘humorous’ sign on someone’s desk, “You don’t have to be ‘damned’ to work here… BUT IT HELPS!”
