Why do customers (in my age bracket particularly) ask that? Because we would expect that you have a stock room (remember those?) where you keep back up stock.
No, you don’t have more, because you fell for that “Just-In-Time” inventory model that became popular in the ’70’s. Works good on paper, but (surprise, surprise) people aren’t paper and are unpredictable! So many good businesses are now out of business because people got tired of being told what they wanted was not in stock and voted with their feet.
Sometimes, at the grocery or butcher they say “Oh, don’t take this” and they bring something out from another room, which is supposed to be better stuff “just for you”. That’s fine if you are a returning customer, but does it make sense when they even do not know you?
Because sometimes there’s more in the back and you just haven’t had time to re-stock yet? Two days ago I was at a craft fair and I held up a pin and said “do you have any more of these” and low and behold they did, the guy just hadn’t put out more yet. And that wasn’t even a store with a stock room in back. So, yeah, why wouldn’t you ask this?
I have been asked that many times when doing a garage sale, and I have the same reaction wanting to express my true feelings but having to bite my tongue and just say “No, that’s all there is”….. adding “you idiot” in my mind.

They think you have a ‘magic’ stock room where anything the right size and color can be found…

That’s a valid question these days with the empty shelves.
