In Texas, you can now be sued for carving a jack o’ lantern. Making an incision to remove the seeds and pulp has been ruled to be an “abortion” if the pumpkin is more than 6 weeks old. The Texas legislature is still unsure if the displaying artificial pumpkins should be deemed a punishable offense as promoting unlawful conduct. /s

They DO stay fresher for MUCH longer if they’re not cut into, and if you put them on a stand so their undersides stay dry.
