It’s not actual anger being expressed, it’s the confidence of male friendship to know that the insult is not actually meant – but only an idiot insults a woman when he could compliment her (and I don’t care if I am called sexist for that statement – flame on).

Me, I don’t normally bother with compliments or insults unless someone has just done something to inflame my emotions.
