If John were to think back to last week when he was injured and the attention he got from his family then, he would not be craving it now.
The best part of this comic strip is Panel 3, where Michael stops April. He may have forgotten that she is not yet 2 years old and she cannot reach that door knob.
I would think it is customary in most families not to enter a closed master bedroom door. A closed door means off-limits to the kids – except in case of emergencies and they still can’t just barge in – they have to knock and talk through the door. The parent decides whether it’s emergency before coming to open the door. At least in my house, a closed door means do not bother me. I need my privacy. I need an alone time. Of course I am talking about the parents. A closed kid’s room door is not necessarily for the same reason as the parents hence they should stay open.
Bed is a very bad place for people with back problems. Not nearly enough support, so it gets pushed into bad shapes. Getting in and out is even worse. Straight-backed chairs may be hard on the butt but they are much better on the back. When I was suffering I spent a lot of time in my chair from the dining room.
I would imagine that John is following his doctor’s advice about bed rest. Remember this was back in the early 90’s when that was the treatment of choice. As for ice, its too late for that to do any good. That should be done when the injury first happens.

It would probably help if the door were open.

Maybe I’m a skeptic, but panel 4 looks like John’s visit to the chiropractor yesterday was money well spent.

At least Saint Michael bothers to knock first before trying to barge in to his parents bedroom..

When I’m sick I don’t want any company, and I appreciate it when it comes.

He really not helping his back just laying there, yes I know his back hurts, John should also try for ice to aid, and John needs to move around.
