Trout knows what she’s talking about. Sounds like Agnes needs “the talk” explained a bit further. Those hens that laid the eggs you buy in the grocery store have never even seen a rooster.

Okay, chirren, here’s how it works. The hens lay eggs anyway, so they don’t need a rooster to lay eggs. But they do need a rooster to fertilize said eggs, or they will never hatch.

I think someone fell asleep during that “talk” and missed the best part.

In Old Testament vernacular, the hen hasn’t known the rooster.

If Agnes missed one part of ‘the talk’ about sex, she also missed two parts of ‘the talk’ about raising chickens. One part is that it seems highly unlikely that eggs bought in the local supermarket are fertilized; the other part is about keeping them at an appropriate temperature. I don’t think they’ll do too well in a refrigerator.

I’d suggest that Agnes give up on the chickens and just make an omelette for her and Trout, but considering her past culinary endeavors, maybe better not.

Agnes needs to know about sterile eggs.

We got fertile eggs once from a friend who had intended on eating them and thus kept them in the fridge. We put them under a broody hen and most of the eggs hatched.
