Apropos of nothing, has anyone ever seen those really old metallic glitter-adorned ornaments that came in a box? Because I’m pretty sure my mom has a bunch in the attic. They’re awesome.
We had a pickle on our tree in Germany. There was nothing special about the pickle. My last Christmas there was in 1950. We also had “mushrooms” *they were probably toadstools – red caps with white dots), “birds”, silver bells and tiny musical instruments on the tree. Real apples, candy and cookies rounded out what was on the tree. All those real items were what we kids looked for as treats during the Christmas Holiday. Back then, we were happy to get just one present each, not like what kids get these days. Well, at least here in the U.S..

I’d believe it more if it was a jalapeno and not a pickle

I guess there were no pluggers in my family. Never had a pickle ornament on the tree.

It’s a German thing. Whoever finds the pickle gets good luck.

I knew a girl that had a big flesh-colored cucumber ornament. I thought it was a cucumber until I looked closer: it wasn’t.

Yup-yup. We have four pickles, so one kid from each of my sons families can find it.

I am looking at our glass pickle ornament on the tree as I type this! I’m half German on Mom’s side— but the tradition is a US one!

Ummmm, I don’t think that’s a general plugger thing. Maybe say “oddball” or “homemade” ornament.
