I love bluegrass and was sorely disappointed when I went to a Grand Ole Opry show in Nashville a few years ago—the lyrics seemed to have been written with a plot wheel, the musicianship was meh, and the songs were overproduced.
Here are some bluegrass and bluegrass-adjacent bands that I enjoy. Be sure to check them out: Billy Strings, Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, Sam Bush Band, Mama Said String Band, Henhouse Prowlers, The Wood Brothers, Still Shine, The Way Down Wanderers, and Chicago Farmer.
True that. Most “country” songs these days are trash. I miss Merle, George (Jones), Marty, Gene (Watson), Johnny (Rodriguez), Conway, Jim (Reeves), Johnny (Horton),and the list goes on…

“before I got to the train station in my pick up”

Doubt that this still applies. What happens when you play a country song backwards, you get your dog back, your pick up back and your girl back.

You’ve got to suffer, if you want to sing the blues.

There’s plenty of good country music. It’s just that it’s ignored by the establishment.

Start a rumor that good Whiskey is just as effective….

You want a happy country song? Play it in reverse; he gets his farm back, his wife returns, and his dog is alive again.

Prozac was approved in 1988. Here’s a pretty good list of 90’s country.

Since they rebranded pop music as country there’s plenty of country music. Who sang the song “Who Killed country”?

It’s not Prozac that’s the problem, it’s the “LIB-UR-TEE FREEDOMMMM LOVE AMERICA OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE YEAHHHHHH MURRICA!” hijacking.
And also Taylor Swift.

Look at it this way. If Van Gogh were alive today they’d medicate him with lithium or whatever, and we wouldn’t have had those haunting irises.

It does not seem possible to write a contemporary Country’ song without ain’t’.
