I went walking in the redwoods one morning with just Kirby (pictured in avatar) accompanying me. He heard a rustle, gave me the “wait a minute”, and within that minute caught a dead mouse in the forest humus and dropped it at my feet.
“I’ll wait while you eat it.”
He just gave me the look that reminded me he was a “hunter”, not an “eater”. I offered it to him again on the way back, same look.
Next day we were on the same path and Johnny Depp had joined us. When we got to the dead mouse on the trail, he took one look (“free snack!”) and we waited while he ate the day-old dead mouse. Cats!
I had a dainty, little (less than 4 pounds), and loving Pomeranian. She was a show dog before I got her. Every time she went outside, she would find some kind of creepy crawly (worm, dragonfly, etc.) that had died and roll all in it.

Rolling in it is bad enough. My wife’s dog once ate one. Ended up at the Vet!
