At the office lunch room one day, we heard a resounding whap, and looked up to see a perfect imprint of a pigeon on the window, and a hawk lunching on the remains below.
As bird feathers break down, they produce a fine powder that coats other feathers when birds preen. This feather dust helps to waterproof the feathers. The dust is also what left that amazingly detailed imprint on the window glass. It’s like a fingerprint.
