Some ancient traditions say that If you save a person’s life, you become responsible for their life, forever. Broomie is just getting carried away with that concept.
Nurse friend was taking a public speaking class in the evenings and gave a talk on the Heimlich Maneuver. She didn’t get a very good grade, but a few days later a fellow student told the class he was in a restaurant and was able to save another diner’s life by using the information from her talk. The teacher increased her grade.
We were in a restaurant when a guy at the table next to us started choking. He was very quiet about it and we almost missed it. My son (who is bigger than me) Heimicked him and the restaurant manager gave him his meal for free.
I’ve used it several times. Once on a person in a Taco Time, a couple of times on my kids, and recently at a friends house at dinner. Tip: do it a little lower than Broom Hilda, the stomach and below below the sternum, and keep doing it. Doesn’t always work right away.
I’ve had to use the Heimlich three times. Worked perfect every time. The last time I used it was kind of surreal. A group of us were sitting around a picnic table eating. My daughter gently said Dad and pointed at another teenage girl sitting across from me. She was obviously choking. I got up went around behind her and performed the Heimlich. The food was dislodged into her plate. I went back to my seat and we all continued eating. For some strange reason; nothing was said about it until years later when my other daughter (the twin to the the one that had noticed it in the first place) brought it up.
If you want to be a real jerk, when someone is choking, and some idjit says “give him abdominal thrusts,” just say “all I know is the Heimlich Maneuver, sorry.”

Now that you have saved him he’s yours, until he runs away.

On the serious side If you need the Heimlich you can’t breath/cough so both hand to the throat to show you can’t breath. Now back to the fun

He got saved from choking, but who will save him from the Broomie?

The Heimlich Maneuver isn’t always the best way to catch a man, Broomie.

I guess it’s best to announce you’re doing the Heimlich so the other patrons don’t think you’re molesting him.
